The Romanian sector of the Danube transports approximately 100 tons of plastic and microplastics into the Black Sea annually, according to a study released by MaiMultVerde in 2023. This year, we analyzed the waste management system in the Danube Delta to determine its coverage and effectiveness. The Danube Delta is the most fragile territory, being deeply affected by pollution from the upper Danube. Here, many of the plastics carried by the water are also deposited, affecting the local fauna and flora. Additionally, the war in Ukraine has a significant environmental impact, which is, however, talked about far too little.
